Solution
Brainstorming is a prewriting technique in which a writer quickly records every fact, idea, or detail related to a topic — words, phrases, statements, questions, even drawings or diagrams — in whatever order they come to mind, without stopping to judge or organize them. It can be done alone or in a group, and the goal is simply to generate as much raw material as possible before worrying about structure.
Its significance in essay writing can be explained through these points:
- Overcomes writer’s block: it gives a writer a way to start producing material even when they don’t yet know exactly what they want to say.
- Generates raw material: it produces a wide pool of ideas, facts, and details that can later be sorted into a thesis and supporting points.
- Encourages free thinking: because nothing is judged or discarded during the process, writers explore ideas they might otherwise censor too early.
- Reveals the shape of the essay: once ideas are listed, patterns and groupings emerge, helping the writer see what their essay could focus on.
- Saves time later: having ideas already on paper makes drafting faster, since the writer isn’t searching for content and structure at the same time.
- Can be done individually or collaboratively: group brainstorming in particular can surface ideas a single writer might not think of alone.
Brainstorming is a low-pressure, high-yield way of mining a topic for content before the more demanding work of organizing and drafting begins.

UV intensity is not the most important factor in skin cancer fatalities. While residents of Colorado (mean elevation of 2.1 km) have always been subjected to the highest UV intensities in the United States, Colorado has one of the lowest skin cancer fatality rates of all the states (Smith, 2015). In contrast, New England, which has much lower UV intensities, has a death rate from skin cancer that is 25% higher than Colorado (Smith 2015). In addition, although equatorial regions have higher UV intensities, the lowest reported skin cancer death rates in the world come from Mauritius (0.2 per 100,000) and Nicaragua (0.2 per 100,000) (Jones, 2013). On the other hand, Jones (2013) reports that Ireland (2.64 per 100,000) has the world's third highest rate. Therefore, the current evidence on distribution of skin cancer fatalities indicates that UV intensity is not the principal factor in determining the skin cancer death rate.

Read the following passage and identify 'additional information marker,' 'cause and effect marker,' 'time marker,' 'contrast marker,' and 'conclusion marker.'
The increasing prevalence of mobile technology has had a detrimental impact on young people's social development in the recent years. Though proponents of technology argue that it fosters connectivity and communication, excessive use can lead to social isolation and a decline in face-to-face interactions. Because of hours spent on social media or gaming, they do not have time available for building real-world relationships and developing essential social skills like empathy and nonverbal communication. Furthermore, the curated and often unrealistic portrayals of life on social media can lead to feelings of inadequacy and anxiety among young people. Therefore, it's crucial to recognize the potential negative consequences of excessive technology use and encourage a healthy balance between the digital and physical worlds for young people.
