What is consumer surplus?
(उपभोक्ता बचत भनेको के हो ?)

Solution
Consumer surplus is the difference between the amount a consumer is willing to pay for a commodity and the amount actually paid for it. The concept was introduced by A.J. Dupuit and developed by Alfred Marshall, and it is based on the law of diminishing marginal utility.
- Formula: consumer surplus = total utility (willingness to pay) − total amount spent. For example, if a consumer is willing to pay Rs. 80, 70, 60 and 50 for four units but pays Rs. 50 each, the consumer surplus is (260 − 200) = Rs. 60.
- On a graph: consumer surplus is the area below the demand curve and above the market price line. It measures the extra benefit consumers get from the market.
