IOE Entrance (Engineering & Architecture)
The Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University, conducts a computer-based entrance test for BE/BArch programs at Pulchowk, Thapathali, WRC, ERC and affiliated colleges. Science (+2 PCM) students are the primary applicants.
- Syllabus: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English - based on +2 Science curriculum
- Format: MCQ-based CBT; check entrance.ioe.edu.np for current pattern
- Prep tip: Solve 5–10 years of IOE past papers under timed conditions; focus on speed and accuracy
- Alternatives: Kathmandu University (KU-CAT), Pokhara University and Purbanchal University run their own engineering admissions
Programs include Civil, Computer, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture (4–5 years).
CEE / MECEE-BL (Medical & Health Sciences)
The Medical Education Commission (MEC) conducts the Common Entrance Examination (CEE), also referred to as MECEE-BL, for MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BPharm, BPH and allied health programs in Nepal.
- Eligibility: +2 Science (PCB/PCM with biology) with minimum grade requirements set by MEC each year
- Competition: Among Nepal's toughest exams - systematic prep over 6+ months is common
- Official portal: mec.gov.np for syllabus, forms and counseling rounds
- Programs: MBBS (5.5 years), BDS, Nursing, Pharmacy and public health degrees
Science students with strong biology and chemistry foundations typically target this pathway.
CMAT (Management / BBA / BBM)
CMAT (Central Management Admission Test) is the standard entrance for BBA, BBM, BIM and related programs under TU's Faculty of Management. Unlike IOE and CEE, students from Science, Management and Humanities streams can apply.
- Subjects: Verbal ability, quantitative techniques, logical reasoning, general awareness
- Grade rule: Typically minimum D+ in each +2 subject and overall CGPA threshold - confirm the live notice each year
- Why Science students choose it: BBA/BBM as a backup while preparing for IOE, or as a primary business career path
- Official info: TU Faculty of Management notices at fomecd.edu.np
Other popular paths
- BSc CSIT / BCA / BIT - Faculty entrance or university-specific tests; strong IT career route
- BBS / BA / B.Ed - Direct admission or faculty entrance at TU, PU, KU depending on college
- LLB (B.A.LL.B.) - Separate law entrance under TU Faculty of Law; open to all +2 streams
- ICAN / ACCA - Professional accountancy ladders parallel to bachelor degrees
- Abroad study - IELTS/TOEFL + university applications; A-Level students often have a smoother path
