NEB Class 12 Supplementary Exam (Grade Increment)

The Grade increment (Mauka / Purak) exam - also called chance exam, Mauka exam, or Purak pariksha - lets you re-appear in one or two subjects where you received NG (Not Graded) or were absent in the main Class 12 board exam. You do not retake subjects you already passed.

Apply only through your school after NEB publishes the official notice following Class 12 Result 2083. NEB will publish the supplementary exam schedule, fees and application deadlines on neb.gov.np following Class 12 Result 2083 (published Ashad 5, 2083).

Who can apply?

You must be a regular examinee from the current Class 12 annual exam and have grade D or above in all other theoretical subjects.

Regular Class 12 examinees from the current annual exam (registration numbers typically starting with 79–82 for recent cycles)
NG in up to two theoretical subjects, with grade D or above in all other theoretical subjects
Absent in up to two subjects, with grade D or above in all other theoretical subjects
NG in one subject and absent in one other subject, with grade D or above in all remaining subjects

Example: You passed 5 subjects with C or higher, got NG in Physics and were absent in Chemistry - you can apply for both in supplementary.

Who cannot apply?

NG or absent in more than two subjects - must re-appear in the next regular/partial exam cycle for those subjects
Grade improvement for passed grades (C, C+, B, etc.) - not allowed in this two-day chance exam
Partial or old-batch candidates with registration numbers from previous cycles - separate partial exam schedule applies
Applications submitted through a different school from where you appeared for the annual exam

Important: This exam is not for improving a passing grade. If you scored C in Mathematics and want a B, you need the separate partial/grade-improvement exam - not this post-result chance exam.

Understanding NG and pass criteria

Under NEB's letter grading system, NG (Not Graded) means you scored below 35% in theory or failed the practical/internal component. Theory and internal marks are evaluated separately - you must pass both to avoid NG.

Minimum 35% in theory (grade D, GP 1.6) in the supplementary subject
Minimum grade C in practical/internal component where applicable - failing either component gives NG
Your previous marks in passed subjects are retained; only the NG/absent subject is re-examined
If you fail the supplementary exam, you get another chance in the next regular grade-increment cycle for that subject (up to three years per revised NEB guidelines for ≤2 NG subjects)

How to apply (step by step)

Contact the same school or college where you appeared for the Baishakh Class 12 annual exam - you cannot apply individually to NEB

Collect the NEB supplementary application form from your school exam section

Fill in symbol number, registration number, date of birth, and the subject(s) with NG or absent status

Attach one passport-size photo and a photocopy of your Class 12 result / grade sheet

Pay the exam fee to the NEB designated bank account and keep the voucher or digital payment proof

Submit the completed form to your school before the deadline - the school batches forms and forwards them to the NEB regional office

Collect your admit card from the school once NEB confirms your application

Two-day exam schedule pattern

NEB conducts supplementary over two days only. Exam time in 2082 was 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM - confirm each year in the official notice.

Held over two consecutive days, usually in Bhadra–Ashoj (August–October), a few weeks after the main Class 12 result

Compulsory English (code 0041) is held only on the first exam day

On exam day - what to remember

Reach the exam center at least 30 minutes before the start time
Carry admit card, valid ID, and permitted stationery only
Mobile phones, smartwatches, and electronic devices are not allowed in the exam hall
Follow the subject schedule printed on your admit card - do not assume dates from previous years
This chance exam is typically your only opportunity for those NG/absent subjects in the current cycle

After supplementary - result & next steps

NEB publishes supplementary results on neb.gov.np and neb.ntc.net.np - check with symbol number and DOB (BS)
If you pass, your grade sheet is updated - the new grade replaces NG for that subject
Collect updated transcript and migration documents from your school for bachelor admission
If you fail again (still NG), you may re-apply in the next scheduled grade-increment exam for that subject
NG in more than two subjects after supplementary means you must wait for the next regular exam cycle for those subjects
