What is NEB Class 11?

After SEE (Class 10), students enter +2 (Higher Secondary) - a two-year program. Class 11 is the first year. You enroll in a college, pick a stream (Science, Management, General, Education, etc.), and study NEB-prescribed subjects.

Unlike Class 12, the Class 11 final examination is not a centralized NEB board exam. Since 2077 BS, schools and colleges conduct Class 11 finals internally using NEB model questions and grids published by the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC). NEB focuses resources on SEE and Class 12 board exams.

Class 11 (Internal)

  • ✓ Conducted by your school/college
  • ✓ Uses CDC model questions & grid
  • ✓ Results used for promotion to Class 12
  • ✓ Practical/internal marks entered to NEB portal
  • ✓ Typically held in Jestha–Asar

Class 12 (Board Exam)

  • ✓ Centralized exam by NEB
  • ✓ External exam centers nationwide
  • ✓ Official +2 certificate & transcript
  • ✓ Results on neb.ntc.net.np / exam.neb.gov.np
  • ✓ Held in Baishakh–Jestha; results Bhadra–Asoj

General / Humanities

Subject lists vary by college (Education, Sociology, Geography, and more). Confirm your faculty notice on neb.gov.np.

Registration (Panchikaran)

Every Class 11 student must complete NEB registration (panchikaran) through their school. This creates your official NEB record with symbol number — required to sit for the Class 12 board exam.

  • School submits registration forms and fees to NEB on your behalf
  • You receive a symbol number used in Class 12 admit card and result
  • Without registration, you cannot appear in the Class 12 final examination
  • Keep your registration details and documents safe for Class 12 form fill-up

Internal assessment & practical exams

NEB evaluation is not theory-only. Schools assess practical work, internal tests and annual exams, then submit marks to NEB's online portal.

  • Science, Computer, Hotel Management and similar subjects include practical components
  • Failing practical can result in NG even with good theory marks
  • Some schools use external examiners for practicals to maintain fairness
  • Internal marks from Class 11 may feed into your combined academic profile

Minimum GPA 1.6 (Grade D, ~35%) per subject is required to pass under the NEB grading system.

Promotion to Class 12

To move from Class 11 to Class 12 you must pass the internal final exam and meet your school's attendance requirements. NEB promotion rules require qualifying grades in a minimum number of subjects:

  • Pass internal Class 11 examination with required GPA in each subject
  • Meet minimum attendance set by your school (typically 75%+)
  • Complete NEB registration if not done at enrollment
  • NG in one subject may still allow promotion depending on NEB's current year notice - confirm with your college
